Is the past tense of 'smite': 'smote', 'smited' or 'smitten'? ;D

I thought the past tense of Smite is Smote. Smited just sounds wrong to me. It's for sure not Smitten. That word has a whole different definition!

Yeah, it is smote. But I think it would be funny if it was smitten. I'm sure they are etmylogically related somewhere down the line. Since smitten is when you are love struck, and smote means to strike down.
