Well, as Lolua can attest, I can't sing worth crap. I couldn't carry a tune if it had handles. And the only musical instrument I can play is the radio.
But I can write song lyrics.
The tune for this one was (unconsciously, I swear) stolen from a song by Garth Brooks. I'd apologize for my taste in music were it in character for an evil dictator to do so, and were it MY taste in music (blame Lolua for forcing me to endure many Country albums while on long car trips) to begin with. Here's a MIDI file of the tune if anyone cares...but the bit that actually sounds like this song doesn't come until about a minute into it.

The lyrics, appropriately enough for a board somewhat concerned with fanfic, were inspired by the sci-fi novel "To Sail Beyond the Sunset" by Robert A. Heinlein.
So, without further ado..
To Sail Beyond the Sunset
(as will hopefully one day be performed by the band Lolua and I intend to form one day, "The Random Lockharts")
As we each live out our life
and struggle through the strife
no matter what the cost
We keep our dreams alive
If we sacrifice our freedom
For some small security
The prize we sought is lost
We die then with our dreams
But to sail beyond the sunset
To soar beyond the sky
This dream of fools and heroes
The meaning of our lives
Is to hear beyond the silence
To see where we are blind
To sail beyond the sunset
For this we live and die
That's why we tilt at windmills
though we know it vain to try
We never lose the hope
Of leaping to the sky
Pushing water up the hillside
shooting rubberbands at stars
It is then we are immortal
Transcending what we are
For, to sail beyond the sunset
To soar beyond the sky
This dream of fools and legends
Is the meaning in our lives
And to hear beyond the silence
To see where we are blind
To sail beyond the sunset
For this we live and die
We fight the hopeless battle
Like Horatio at the bridge
We gladly give our life
that someone else may live
And like the bravest soldiers
We never sound retreat
There is no glory higher
Than victory in defeat
To sail beyond the sunset
To soar beyond the sky
The dream of fools and heroes
The meaning of our lives
Is to hear beyond the silence
To see where we are blind
To sail beyond the sunset
For this we live and die
We knew the fight was over
before we even came
The deck is stacked against us
But still we play the game
We play the cards we're given
We toss our last chips in
We gladly make the wager
If you don't play, you can't win
And to sail beyond the sunset
To soar beyond the sky
The dream of fools and legends
It feels good to be alive
And to hear beyond the silence
To see where we are blind
To sail beyond the sunset
For this we live and die
But the Burden is too heavy
We fall beneath our load
The fate of every person
Is to die as we grow old
As we sit there in our rocker
On the back porch of our lives
We think back and remember
We remember with a smile
That to sail beyond the sunset
To soar beyond the sky
The dream of fools and heroes
The meaning of our lives
Is to hear beyond the silence
To see where we are blind
To sail beyond the sunset
For this we live and die
With the heart to stick together
But the strength to stand alone
We each must make that voyage
Into the last unknown
If we always fought with courage
We can surrender with a smile
We know we leave a memory
And that will never die
'Cause to sail beyond the sunset
To soar beyond the sky
This dream of fools and heroes
Is the meaning of our lives
And to hear beyond the silence
To see where we are blind
To sail beyond the sunset
For this we live and die
And To Sail Beyond the Sunset
To soar above the sky
The last frontier is open
The dream is still alive
To climb the highest mountain
To Swim beyond the Sea
To Sail beyond the Sunset
And finally to be free
Well. Whaddaya think, sirs?
