The Plink: The Plink control an independent single-system nation just beyond the fringe of the IS. They are blue-skinned, six-limbed, herbivorous quadrupeds. They have a reputation for a jovial character, though this may be because visiting species tend to interact with Plink salesmen more than any other profession.
The Plink are most notable for manufacturing the only alternative means of faster-than-light travel to hyperdrive in the known galaxy. The Plink Warp Bubble physically removes a volume of space from the universe, and attempts to re-integrate that space later. Very few intelligent creatures are willing to attempt travel via Plink Warp Bubble, as the devices have a success rate of only about 30%. In the majority of attempts at travel, vessels do not reappear at their destinations—with the success rate lower the greater the distance travelled.
Plink Warp Bubbles are much more popular as a last-ditch defense for warships. Rather than face certain destruction, a ship may activate a Warp Bubble and remain stationary until the threat is presumed to have passed before attempting to return. The success rate for Plink Warp Bubbles which do not travel any significant distance is nearly 60%.
The Skree: The Skree are a vaguely avian race who control three stars well beyond the fringe of IS space. They do not engage in significant trade with any known species or polity, and their hyperdrives predate the first Empire of Man. They are known for their music and for eating visitors.
The Vulkans: The Vulkans inhabit an IS system near Sparta station, although Integrity considers their world legally independent. The Vulkans are extremophile beings, resembling colonies of moss which grow around the numerous lava flows of their world. The Vulkans sell a modest quantity of extremely delicate technical components to the IS in exchange for military protection and a supply of certain rare minerals.
The Thebans: The Thebans are an independent nation of humans, a relic of the first Empire of Man occupying a remote sector of the galaxy. The Thebans declined offers to join the second Empire of Man, believing themselves the superior heirs of an ancient noble state. They used to possess a defunct hyperdrive factory, but shortly after the consolidation of the Integrated Systems, an unknown fleet of warships raided their capital system and stole the factory's remains. The Thebans have only a meager fleet of starships and their industries use a hopelessly antiquated technology base. They possess little of interest to anyone except nostalgic members of the Humanist faction.
