In the chat this evening, Lorpy happened to compare Roy's facial expressions in the manga with Dilbert. Apparently neither of them have visible mouths most of the time, or something like that. Lorpy didn't elaborate. But suddenly, I was struck by inspiration...Dilbert and FMA have the same character types! Observe
Dilbert - Roy Mustang
Lorpy's original example.
Pointy-Haired Boss - Fuhrer Bradley
Or would that be Pointy-Sworded boss? Pointy-eyed boss? Evil and uncaring authority figure, although Bradley is far more competent than the actual PHB.
Dogbert - Ed Elric
Friend, rival, nemesis, and lifelong companion of Dilbert/Mustang.
Alice - Riza Hawkeye
One of the few women around the office, far more competent than any of the men around her. Alice has the fist of death, Riza has her sidearm, and no man who asks either lady to get him a cup of coffee has ever survived the experience.
Asok - Cain Fuery
Youngest, cutest, and most naive guy at the office, being shown the ropes by his older mentors...sometimes for good, sometimes for bad, but it's always a hell of an education.
Wally - Jean Havoc
Laid-back slacker of the office. Never seems to do anything useful, but never gets fired, either.
Loud Howard - Alex Louis Armstrong
Big guy who shouts a lot.
Ratbert - Black Hayate
Little guy who just wants to be loved, but some others find him repulsive.
Bob the Dinosaur - Alphonse Elric
Big and powerful, but with the mind of a child. Able to give a wedgie to any annoying villain he comes across.
Carol the Secretary - Juliet Douglas/Sloth
Evil secretary to the pointy-haired boss. Has entirely too much power.
Catbert, evil director of human resources - Father/Dante
Person who takes "human resources" a bit too literally. Likes to play with human beings as toys.
Elbonians - Ishbalans
Backwards people from a thinly fictionalized fourth-world country with backwards technological and social attitudes.
Phil, the Prince of Insufficent Light - Truth-san
Guy who rules a very odd version of hell and punishes people for seemingly minor sins.
Dilbert - Roy Mustang
