If you were to use the word curse in a sentence, it might mean that you had stubbed your toe and were swearing under the pain of an injured foot. Or you might mean that someone has actually put a curse, on you, for instance, you could say something like You-Know-Who cursed the boy and gave him a nasty scar, Or it could possibly mean that you were talking about the Baudelaire Orphans. For instance you might say something like, The Baudelaire orphans are the must unfortunate children ever to walk the planet, They must have fallen under the Snicket family curse. And you would be right.
Klaus Baudelaire cursed under his breath, brushing a a pine needle out of his eye where it had hit him in the face.
“Don’t say things like that.” Violet Baudelaire, the eldest of the Baudelaire orphans replied. She was not afraid that Klaus might make something unlucky happen, or that the branch might vanish in a puff of green smoke. She just didn’t like Klaus using that kind of language. Klaus loved to read, and knew a great many different words. And more than most adults, it’s just that Violet didn’t like her younger brother saying using language that she expected to hear from Count Olaf instead of har younger brother.
“Sorry,” Klaus muttered That branch just caught me by surprise is all.”
“”Well you know there are little ears here.” Violet, was of course referring to the youngest Baudelaire orphan, Sunny, who knew a great many words herself, but very few of them understandable to those outside the Baudelaire siblings.
“Bowdler” Sunny said as she tottered along side her two older siblings., Which meant something like, ‘It’s okay, I know which words are okay to say and those which shouldn’t be said in polite company. “
