She opened her eyes to find only darkness around her. She stood up, feeling the sand shift beneath her as she got back onto her feet. Julia cursed herself silently for having fallen asleep outside again, but the heat could be so lulling sometimes. She looked ahead expecting to see the dim light of her home ahead, but instead saw only darkness swaying in the warmth of the night. She felt the hair on the back of her neck stand on end; how could she have wandered out this far into the desert?
"Julia..." his voice was barely audible, as though he had forgotten how to speak. She couldn't turn to face him; her entire body had frozen in instinctive panic and terror.
She finally forced herself to face in the direction from which she had heard the voice, to prove to herself that she had simply imagined it. When she did so, she gasped and froze once more, this time her eyes wide with disbelief.
"T-Timothy..." she could hardly utter his name; seeing him there before her made this simple word taste like something venomous in her mouth.
Indeed he stood not too far away, his appearence vaguely transluscent but real enough to convince her she wasn't imagining this.
Though she knew it too good to be true, she smiled weakly out of shock and stepped towards him. "Timothy...you...you really did come back..."
"Only to deliver a warning to you." His voice was cold as the night air that sometimes plagued her home, his once vivid reddish eyes now dulled into a soulless apathy. Staring straight into them, she could no longer see the Timothy she had known before and halted, waiting for this message.
"I have simply come to tell you...that bothDamien and Chael have been condemned for their sinful existances," he said simply, and Julia's eyes widened as she listened to the utter seriousness of his voice.
"No...we just need more time and we'll find a way to cure them...I just know we will..." she said weakly, but Timothy continued staring uncaringly towards her.
"It will not be much longer now...before their bodies will no longer be able to withstand the abnormal amounts of energy coursing through them," he explained simply, stepping aside to reveal two smaller forms running steady through the sands. Julia gasped to see Chael and Damien running alongside one another laughing about something, unaware of Timothy's presence it seemed though they were headed towards them.
"In fact..." Timothy said in a dark tone. "It is nearly time for them both to perish..."
Immediately after he said this Chael and Damien's once playful forms were suddenly consumed swiftly by red, glimmering alchemic circles that cut into their flesh simutaneously. Neither of them even had the time to scream or cry out, and both plummeted to the ground with a look of wordless terror on their faces.
She watched them writhe weakly against the force, only capable of letting out a weak chorus of drowned screams. She rushed forward towards them, praying she could find some way to stop this, but before she could reach them Timothy stepped into her way, grasping at her shoulders with an inhuman strength and halting her.
"What are you doing Timothy? That's out son dying, and Chael's only a boy still as well! Why are you doing this?" she screamed desperately, and for a moment Timothy was quiet and simply stared down upon her with his same, emotionless gaze.
Finally he spoke, so softly it sounded almost like a prayer uttered under his breath. "It is already too late..." he whispered, loosening his grip just enough to guide her around so she could see the boys.
She let out a horrified scream and recoiled against his ghostly form as she saw the two lifeless forms lying before her silently, now half buried in the wind-carried sand. Both of them were staring blankly towards her, their once bright eyes robbed of any energy whatsoever. Blood seeped gently from the circles that had claimed their bodies, and neither of them made a sound at all.
"NO!" she screamed, reeling against Timothy fiercely until she managed to break his grip, falling down towards the black sands underfoot. She felt like she was falling forever...she wanted nothing more than for the sands to engulf her as well...she hadn't been able to save them...
Julia fell against the packed earth with a painful thud, and she wrenched her eyes back open to see only the dark forms of her room to greet her. As she listened to her labored breaths she felt the oppressive heat of sweat caking her forehead, revealing the stress her body had been under. It had felt so real, the stiffling heat, Timothy's cold flesh, even the sands beneath her bare feet...
She shivered and remained there on the floor, kneeling but too horrified still to utter a prayer or plea that her vision would never be real. After a moment she managed a small statement, huddling against herself as the nightmare refused to leave her mind.
"Oh God...please...please don't let that happen to them..."
