ONE - To Challenge the Sun In an attempt to bring their dead mother back to life using alchemy, Edward (11) and Alphonse (10) Elric lose more than they bargain for. Edward loses his left leg, and Alphonse loses his entire body. Luckily, Edward sacrifices his right arm to bind Alphonse's soul to a nearby suit of armor. Four years later, the brothers arrive in Lior City in search of the legendary Philosopher’s Stone. Word has reached them of a religious leader named Cornello, who is performing miracles, Ed suspects alchemy. There, they meet Roze to whom Cornello has promised to bring her boyfriend back. Ed insists it's not possible and quotes a list of ingredients that make up a human, and then the law of Equivalent Exchange. Roze disagrees and says Cornello can work miracles and if she's has faith, the sun god Leto will grant her wish and Cornello will be able to bring him back. Ed and Al watch him perform some 'miracles' and its plain to see it's just basic alchemy except for the fact that Cornello doesn't need a circle. Ed and Al suspect it's his ring. Meanwhile, Lust informs Cornello of the arrival of Ed and Al. Long story short Ed fights Cornello. Cornello turns the ground into sand so Ed can't make a circle to transmute with. But Cornello finds out Ed doesn't need a circle which lets him know that Ed has performed human transmutation, a forbidden (by law) form of alchemy. Roze is horrified to find out Ed has metal limbs, and even more horrified to find out Al has no body at all...

TWO - Body of Taboo Meanwhile Ed and Al run off with Roze, and run into an angry mob who capture and imprison Ed. But Ed has a plan, and while Ed is in jail, Al goes around putting it into action. Meanwhile, Roze sneaks to where her boyfriend is supposedly being ressurected, and is horrified to find a creature in his place. A cockateel chimaera which Cornello had taught to speak her name... Ed eventually escapes, and puts their plan into action... While Cornello is doing the James Bond villian thing of divulging his evil plan, which is to build a faithful army unafraid of dying, Ed has set up his own PA system, so everyone in town can here it. They fight and Cornello's ring goes splodey for no apparent reason. Cornello is defeated and the townspeople are dissilusioned. Ed leaves the townspeople to make their own desicions. However, Cornello arrives from a journey, saying that the person in power must have been his evil twin sent by Leto to test their faith, and the townspeople take this Cornello in (with the exception of Roze, who is challenged to rethink her faith) . In reality this Cornello is the Shapeshifter Envy who has taken Cornello's place after Gluttony ate the real Cornello.

THREE - Mother A flashback episode, showing Ed and Al learning alchemy when they are 7 and 8. Their father, the famous alchemist Hohenheim Elric, had left them and their mother on their own. Eventually their mother dies of an illness, leaving the two boys to fend for themselves. They try to contact their father, sending letters to everyone he knew, but to no avail. Ed and Al then try to bring her back from the dead, but fail miserably, losing various bodyparts in the processs. While Ed is going through the painful process of getting automail via his childhood friend Winry Rockbell, a certain Colonel Mustang arrives in Rizenbul in response to one of the letters Ed has sent. He shows interest in the boys and when Ed has recovered Ed sets off to Central in order to apply to become a State Alchemist, in order to have access to state research facilities and resources. Leaving, they burn down their house so they can never go back on their quest.

FOUR - A Forger’s LoveEn route to Central, the boys stop while waiting for their train, in a small town nearby which is rumoured to have the noted alchemist Majhal, who was a friend of Hohenheim. There are rumours of zombies in the town, however, zombies that attack people... Majhal, it turns out is trying to bring back his (supposedly) dead wife by binding her soul onto these dolls that he makes. But he can't seem to locate her soul, thus creating zombie doll things... Turns out she's not dead after all and that she's just had amnesia all these years. (This episode is kind of filler, it's only important in that we learn more about how Al is bound onto his suit of armor.) Anyway, the zombie attacks stop and Ed and Al continue on to Central.

SEVEN - Chimaera's Cry Ed and Al return to Shou's to await the results. At the party for Ed's completion of the exam, Shou's evaluation in mentioned. All state alchemists must be evaluated yearly in order to keep their liscences. Ed gets suspicious of Shou, and tries to find out what he researches, but Brigadier Basque Gran stops him because of it's classified nature. Ed becomes involved in a serial killer case. after seeing the mangled corpse of one of the victims, flashbacks of his mother cause him to pass out. Ed investigates further into Tucker's research. And he finds out why he's called the life-stitching alchemist. In order to pass his evaluation, Shou used his own daughter and her dog to make a talking chimaera, like he had previously used his wife. Ed is horrified. The chimaera is in pain and his going to be carted off for study, but runs away. Meanwhile a tattoed man finds the chimaera in a backalley, and suddenly knows what he has to do; cleanse the world from alchemic abominations and their makers. He 'releases' the chimaera from it's unnatural form, exploding it all over the alley. Ed is horrified when he finds the aftermath. While at the library, he meets the tattooed man heading into Central Library, Ed tells him he's not going to be a State Alchemist anymore, and the man replies that that's good.

When he wakes up, he finds his automail removed, and Winry tied up. Barry and Ed fight, Ed wins. As a reward, the Fuhrer refuses his resignation, gives him a pass on his exam and gives him the title 'Fullmetal'.

NINE - Be Thou for the People Ed is assigned to go and inspect the Youswell Mines. There, he is welcomed warmly, until they find out he's a State Alchemist. He is promptly kicked out of the inn, they don't take kindly to Dogs of the Military. Just then the Military leader of the Mine, Lieutenant Yoki shows up and invites Ed and Al to stay with him and his alchemist daughter Ryla instead. It turns out Yoki is living like a king off the backs of the poorer than dirt miners. Ed decides to make things right and divises a plan to 'buy' the mine from Yoki. Ed gold plates a bunch of rocks to make Yoki think he turned them to gold. As turning things into gold is illegal, Ed convinces Yoki to write off the mine as a gift rather than an actual transaction. Ed then sells the deed back to the miners for the price of a room at the Inn in which he was refused earlier. When Yoki realises he's been tricked, Yoki can't complain because the contract signed by him is legally binding, and he can't say anything about the fake gold either. He is driven out of town with his tail between his legs by the miners. Thus ends the flashback episodes, the episode ends with Ed and Al heading to the desert city of Lior in search of the Philsopher's Stone.

TEN - The Phantom Theif After the events in Lior, Ed and Al take a detour to Akroia (Aquoia?) in order to delay the inevitable bad news about Lior he'd have to give to his superior Colonel Roy Mustang. While staying in the water city, a place that is slowly sinking into the sea, much like Venice, Ed is investigated by Inspector Gadget a detective who is investigating a case about an alchemist thief known as Psiren, who pulls off some very public and showy heists. Meanwhile Ed gets food poisoning and is sent to the hospital, where they meet a woman who reminds Al of their mother. Turns out she is Psiren who says she is doing these crimes in order to raise money for the hospital which is in danger of being torn down. The hospital is torn down, and Ed finds that Psiren has become a teacher, who is trying to save a school which is scheduled to be torn down... which it is.... and Psiren becomes a nun, and is trying to raise money to save the church, which is scheduled to be torn down... and then is... it's at this point that they realise that they've been had, and Psiren is just a con. (but a con that has been bringing new life into the city by increasing tourism and sort of helping the city out) Ed helps in her very public arrest, however Psiren escapes the police once again. Psiren then confronts Ed and tells him that she's heard rumours of the Philosopher's Stone in a town called Xenotime.

ELEVEN - The Other Brothers Elric: Part OneEd and Al arrive in Xenotime, saving a little girl trapped under some rocks. They are welcomed warmly, then are promptly thrown out when they reveal themselves as the Elric Brothers. Apparently the townspeople already have the Elric Brothers position filled and aren't taking new applications. Ed investigates the imposters, who are working with the local land baron Mugiar to create a Philosopher's Stone. Ed confronts Fake!Ed and looses on account of the Stone which Fake!Ed has which allows him to do transmutations without a circle. While Ed is licking his wounds, the local lemon farmer and uncle to the little girl Ed saved gives them a place to stay for the night. Elisa (the little girl) coughs through the night, and Al is sent for medicine in the morning, but Al can't buy the medicine because he's kicked out of the pharmacy for being an 'imposter'. Luckily he meets Fake!Al who gets the medicine for Al and the two Al's discuss their headstrong brothers. We find out his real name is Fletcher. Al notices a lot of people cough in town, and asks Fletch about it. But Fletcher is called away by his brother. Ed and Al sneak into the mansion again, and find that they haven't actually made a P!Stone after all, but a Red Stone, sort of the cubic zirconium of P!Stones, a 'cheap imitation'. The Red Water used to make the Red Stone is highly toxic, and thats why everyone has been getting sick in town. Fake!Ed tries to douse Ed with the stuff, and Fletcher saves Ed and gets doused himself... and the cliffhanger hangs.

TWELVE - The Other Brothers Elric: Part Two The mansion's guards attempt to catch Ed and Al, but The Fake!Elrics allow them to escape. Then, Fake!Ed uses his Fake!P!Stone to save Fletcher from Red Water poisoning. The Fake!Elrics show Mugiar their progress with the Stone as he is concerned with it's security. He wants them to step up production. Fake!Ed says it isn't necessary. Then Mugiar drops the Red Stone into a device which allows him to do alchemy even though he's not an alchemist. He ties up the boys using it, and reveals that he knew they were imposters the whole time and that it's obvious they are the sons of Nash Tringham. Ed and Al head back to Belcio's (the lemon farmer) place. They hear Elisa coughing and Ed tells Belcio about the Red Water. He then makes the connection to Nash Tringham, whom he grew up with. Nash is the one who discovered Red Water, even doing research in Central for it. Years later he returned to Xenotime a broken man, saying he'd never research it again. Mugiar then pounced on him and got him to continue his research under the hopes of revitalizing the dying goldmining town of Xenotime. The mines began producing gold again, but a plague spread through the town, killing infants. Elisa was born in this time, and was saved by a Doctor Marcoh, who had a tool which glowed. Ed and Al wonder if it was a real Philosopher's Stone. Nash, when pressed about the epidemic, says nothing but then leaves town. The gold dries up, and the epidemic stopped. Meanwhile, while Ed is talking with Belcio, Nash's kids are being held prisoner by Mugiar. Mugiar again presses Fake!Ed to move on to the contingency plan, which involves putting Red Water in the drinking supply of pregnant women in order for the stuff to be absorbed into the placenta, condensing it into crystals. Again Fake!Ed Refuses. Mugiar then reveals that he killed their father. Mugiar then meets up with Lust, who he's been in contact with. He assures her that he can get Ed and Al to do what he wants. Mugiar then invites the real Elrics to research the Philosopher's Stone with him, saying the other Elrics had him fooled and that he was sorry. Mugiar entices Ed with the stone, which Ed promptly explodes. Ed says he wants to take care of the imposters first. Ed frees the Tringham Brothers and tells them to live their own lives instead of living in the shadow of their father. Ed then returns to Mugiar and says he doesn't work for murderers. Mugiar then pulls out another Red Stone and drops it in his device, which turns into a machine gun-like thing, Ed and Al are cornerd, but the Tringham's arrive to save the day. Fake!Ed thanks Ed, and reveals his name is really Russel. Mugiar however escapes underground. All four of them persue him into the mines. Fighting ensues and Mugiar is crushed under the crumbling fountain of Red Water. The Red Water rushes out of it's spring, threatening to pollute the town. Fletcher, using his plant alchemy gets the surrounding trees to suck up the Red Water and then explodes them, much like Ed did with Mugiar's Stone. The toxic water gone, and the Tringhams working for Belcio at his lemon farm, Ed and Al continue on to Headquarters.

THIRTEEN - Flame vs Fullmetal Ed and Al arrive back at East Headquarters (where they were stationed under Mustang) Al finds a stray cat and Major Seargent General Fury finds a stray dog. Ed tells Al to put it ouside, and Fury tries to find a home for his dog. Ed goes to finally report back to Mustang, who we learn has been following Ed's moves carefully, much to Ed's consternation. Ed asks him about Doctor Marcoh, but Mustang says he's never heard of him. Ed isn't convinced. Meanwhile, Fuhrer Bradley arrives at East Headquarters with about a dozen alchemists from Central under the guise of an inspection of East. Roy is not convinced. Ed does a double take of the Fuhrer's secretary, because she looks like Ed's mother. While searching for info on Marcoh, Ed discovers Al hasn't gotten rid of the kitten yet. Hughes, who is over here from Central, reminds Ed of his impending evaluation to renew his State Alchemist's liscencce. Ed gets the idea to do a battle assesment. His choice of opponant? Roy Mustang, the Flame Alchemist. Roy scoffs, saying the Fuhrer wouldn't allow such a thing, but of course the Fuhrer does allow it. Roy mutters that when he's Fuhrer, he will do things differently. Hughes asks Ed how the search for the Stone is going, and Ed asks Hughes if he knows who Marcoh is. Brigadier General Basque Gran overhears him and tells him that Marcoh is a filthy deserter who fled from the Ishbal Rebellion. Ed makes a bargain with Roy that if he wins, he'll have to tell Ed all he knows about Doctor Marcoh and take in Al's kitten. They fight. Ed wins on a technicality (Roy has a flashback to the rebellion at an inopportune time, which Ed utilizes to his advantage) Roy tells Ed where Marcoh is and says he should pay him a visit. Fury, after many unsuitable owners, finally settles on Riza (Lisa) Hawkeye as the pup's owner. Al's kitten however needs to find another home because after everything Roy told Al about Marcoh, Ed would end up 'owing him too much' with the principle of Equivalent Exchange as his guide. Al agrees and they set off to visit Marcoh. Hughes and Roy have a chat. Roy asks why they are really all at East. It's because of an Alchemist Killer who is around Central. The 'bigwigs' pressed the Fuhrer until they moved headquarters to East, where they could be protected by the legendary Flame Alchemist.

FOURTEEN - Destruction's Right Hand The Military has moved into Lior in order to crush the development of a civil war. The townspeople finally question Cornello, as more and more townspeople are massacred by the Military. Lust, Gluttony, and Envy watch the battle from the bell tower, and point out the foolishness of man. Envy tells the others of Scar (The Alchemist Killer) and they decide it is in their best interest to protect Ed from him, as he is 'the closest to their goal'. Scar arrives in East as Ed and Al leave to look for Marcoh. Ed finds that he has become a country doctor named Marroh and does miraculous healings. Ed and Al realises they are being followed. After evading their stalker, a State Alchemist who was with the Fuhrer, they visit Marcoh but find themselves unwelcome. The Good Doctor holds them at gunpoint until Al diffusses the situation. Doctor Marcoh says he doesn't want to go back to work for the Military. Marcoh explains that he's seen and done too many horrible things during the Ishbal Rebellion and that he is trying to repay some of the debt he's worked up by helping people. Ed asks about his research and Marcoh refuses to tell him anything. Ed gets desperate and starts raiding Marcoh's home. Ed finds a vial of what appears to be clarified Red Water, but turns out to be a genuine Philsopher's Stone. Basque Gran then barges in and takes the stone and Doctor Marcoh into custody. He also mentions that Marcoh's Stones were flawed, and could backfire without warning. Ed remembers how they took Ninaxander away and says this is the same as before, and this time he was going to do something about it. Ed chases after the car containing Marcoh. But the car is imploded by Scar, who kills Basque Gran, exploding his brain. Scar then goes for Marcoh. Marcoh sees that Scar is Ishbalan and makes no attempt to resist, feeling that it's within Scars right to kill him for his part in the Ishbal Massacre. Ed pulls him to safety, however. Scar tracks them down and soon they are cornered by Scar. Scar says that Ed has kind eyes like his older brother, who was killed by alchemists. Just when it looks like Ed, Al and Marcoh are done for, the state alchemist who has been tailing Ed and Al breaks in. He is Alex Armstrong, the Strong-Arm Alchemist. His arrival allows Ed and Al to run off with Marcoh. Ed returns the Stone he stole from Marcoh (which Basque Gran had dropped) saying that that Stone belongs to the people Marcoh healed with it.

FIFTEEN - The Ishbal Massacre Armstrong and Scar's fight continues. We learn that alchemy is forbidden by the Ishbalan God and that Scar utilizes a loophole to do his killings (Alchemy has three parts: determin the makeup, break it down,, and put it back together again in a different form. Scar stops at the second step and thus claims that what he does isn't really alchemy) The fight rages on until the tunnel caves in. Back in East City, Ed and Al try to figure out where to hide Marcoh so neither Scar nor the Military get ahold of him. Marcoh says he really doesn't care if Scar kills him. Marcoh then fills Ed and Al in on Ishbal and it's people. The Ishabalans were a peacful people, who only differed on religious views. They were against alchemy because it puts human beings in place of God. 13 years ago, a military officer accidentaly shot and killed an Ishbalan child. This spurned on riots which developed into a fully blown civil war lasting seven years. Finally the Fuhrer sent in a crack team of State Alchemists (among them were Roy Mustang, Alex Armstron, Basque Gran, and Tim Marcoh) to end the war. Basque ordered Marcoh to provide them with Philosopher's Stones, which he was working on developing. Reluctantly Marcoh agrees. The Stones amplify their alchemy so much that the Ishbalans are pretty much wiped out. The rebellion was put down singlehandedly by the state alchemists in a single night. During the course of the Rebellion/Massacre, there were a pair of doctors attempting to save as many lives as possibly on both sides. Gran ordered their execution, which was carried out by Roy Mustang. Roy is horrified at the slaughter and decides to commit suicide, Marcoh stops him however, asking him if he'll keep quiet if he leaves with his research and the Stones. Mustang agrees. Ed suggests that Marcoh might be able to lie low in their home town of Rizenul for a while. Ed is sure that their friends and mechanics Winry and Pinako Rockbell will take him in. Hearing the name Rockbell, Marcoh freaks out and runs away from Ed and Al. Meanwhile Scar is being persued by the Military and escapes over the top of a building, landing straight in the midst of Ed and Al, who have finally caught up to Marcoh again. Scar once again attempts to kill Ed, but Al gets in the way and Scar takes a huge chunk out of Al's suit. He then 'splodes Ed's automail arm so he can't do transmutations anymore. Ed, desperate, begs Scar to only take his life and to leave Al alone since Ed is the State Alchemist, and older brother which would be an equivalent exchange for Scar's older brother. Although Scar doesn't think this is a fair exchange, he swears before God not to harm Al. Ed, however is saved by Dr Marcoh, who uses his Philosopher's Stone on Scar, which appears to react with his tatoo. Marcoh throws the Stone at Scar which is then absorbed (painfully) into Scar's arm. The Military arrive then, but Scar escapes by blowing the street apart. Ed insists that they can still make a run for it, but Marcoh insists he can't go to Rizenbul because the name of the Doctors they executed in Ishbal was Rockbell. Winry's parents were doctors. Ed looks at Roy, Roy grimaces. The Fuhrer's Secretary arrives and takes Marcoh into custody, insisting that he won't be harmed. Al says he hears his mother's voice. Ed says it's just because Al was near death, and not to go unstable on him.

SIXTEEN - That Which is Lost Ed and Al plan to go back to Rizenbul in order to get Ed's arm fixed, so Ed can repair Al. Ed is the only one who knows how Al's soul is bound to the armor, and thus is the only one able to repair him. After repairs, Ed and Al intend to look something up at Central Library. Marcoh had slipped Ed and Al a note before being carted off by the Military, it said, "Central Library, First Branch... The Truth Behind Truths" But Ed doesn't feel he can trust the Military anymore, so he doesn't clue them in about the note. Armstrong voulunteers to be Ed and Al's Escort to Rizenbul in case Scar shows up again. Meanwhile, Marcoh's safe house has been discovered by Lust and Gluttony. Lust threatens Marcoh, stabbing him in the shoulder with her nails, which we find out can become long spikes. She tells him he better not have put more than nesseccary in his research. Marcoh uses his own pool of blood to make a trasmutation circle, running Lust through with a spike made from the floor. We find out that Lust is more than human however, when she seems unphazed by the attack. She asks Marcoh sarcastically that "Isn't dying once enough for a girl?" Marcoh realises that what the 'storybooks say' is true and that creatures like her are real. It is unclear what he means by this, however. Reluctantly Marcoh tells her where his research is. Menwhile Ed finds that Al has been accidentally left at the last stop as cargo. Al has been discovered by a teenage boy, who mistakes him for regular armor, which is perfect for the fight he is going to. Ed and Armstrong backtrack to find Al. But Al gets his leg stolen by a little girl. The girl stole it for her grandpa who had lost a leg in the Ishbal Rebellion. He returns the leg to Ed, apologizing. Ed offers to hook him up with his automail mechanic, but he refuses, saying that he likes his leg the way it is. He says he lost it, yes, but he's gained a lot for the loss, things like peace and quiet and being able to spend time with his grandkids. He asks Ed about his own arm and leg and asks him what he's gained. Ed says he never thought about it, and that they had always felt they were trying to repay some debt, and never turned it around before. Frustrated that him and Al haden't gained anything in their Equivalent Exchange, he storms off. Meanwhile the boy finds out Al can talk. Al uses alchemy to pretend he's demonic armor, to scare the boy into getting out of his suit. It works. Ed finds Al and they continue on their journey.

SEVENTEEN - The House Where the Family Waits Ed and Al finally arrive in Rizenbul. It has been four years since they had been here. Ed explains to Pinako (Granny) Rockbell that he needs to be refitted with new automail. Winry yells at him for breaking his other automail. Ed asks them if they can have it ready in a week, and Pinako tells him that they can have it ready in three days. They take new measurments for Ed, and find he's grown...albeit very slightly. While waiting for the automail to be ready, Ed visits his mother's grave. Meanwhile, Al has trouble remembering a childhood friend. Al worries that there is something wrong, but Winry just says that it's normal for memories to fade, and that the friend had changed a lot since he last saw her. When Ed returns, Winry begs Ed to let her take apart his pocketwatch to see how it ticks, but Ed refuses. Winry eyes Armstrong's watch, but he avoids her. Ed finds Al sitting in their bedroom, worrying. Al asks Ed if he had friends as a kid, because he can't remember any of them. Al worries that there is something wrong with him. Ed, uncomfortable, wants to ask Al something, but decides against it. Al begs Ed to ask him. but Armstrong comes in and saves Ed from having to say anything. Three days later, the automail is ready and Ed must once again go through the immense pain of connecting automail. Ed recovers sometime later, and is finally able to fix Al. We see Al's seal, which is drawn in Ed's own blood. With Al repaired, the two brothers spar (because there sensei always said that to train the mind, you must train the body), joined by Armstrong. While they are sparring, Winry sees Ed's watch, and can't resist taking it apart. She stops however after opening the cover. Ed has inscribed "Don't Forget 3.Oct. 10" the date they burned down their house. Feeling guilty, Winry gives back the watch and tells Ed what she saw. Ed tells her that not even Al has seen that, and says bitterly that he has to carry around his shame in his pocket like a good luck charm.. Winry starts crying because Ed and Al won't. Ed says he has nothing to go back to, and Winry tells him that he is wrong and that they have Granny and her. Before dinner, Ed and Al go for a walk where their house used to be and reminisce about when they were little. Winry flashes a light for them just like their mother used to do. They go back for dinner. When Ed an Al leave, Winry tells Pinako about the watch.

EIGHTEEN - Marcoh's Notes Meanwhile, in Central, Lust and Gluttony look for Marcoh's research journals. They meet up with Scar and a fight ensues Ed arrives in Central to be handed over to Bloch and Ross, Ed and Al's new bodyguards. They go to the library to find it has been burned to the ground. In Hughes' report, he says that Scar was spotted at the scene and he probably wasn't alone, there appeared to be a struggle. Ed and Al try to verify the research was in the library at the time of the fire. They remember a librarian named Scheska used to work there, but they are told she was fired recently for reading on the job. Ed and Al go to Scheska's house to see if she knows if the research was in the First Branch Library and end up rescuing her from under a mountain of books which had fallen on top of her. Ed questions her and she says that Marcoh's research was indeed in the first branch. Ed decides to transmute the library back into it's previous condition, but a strong wind blows some of the ashes away. Ed thinks all is lost, but Scheska says she can reproduce the book from memory for him. She has a photographic memory and can remember every book she's ever read. Ed agrees and she produces a book entitled "Tim Marcoh's 1000 Recipes for Making Magic in the Kitchen" Bloch and Ross think that it's the wrong book, but Ed isn't so sure, since alchemy was 'born in the kitchen' Ed handsomely rewards Scheska for her efforts and takes the tome back to another branch of the library to decypher. Ross wants Ed to return to headquarters where it's safer and tells Hughes so. Hughes says it isn't his jurisdiction and he's to busy reconstructing casefiles that were destroyed in the fire to spare anyone. Ed introduces Hughes to Scheska, who is given the job of reproducing the records (which she read because she ran out of books to read, even though she wasn't really supposed to read the military records). With the addition of Scheska, Hughes is able to spare some people to cover security of the library for Ed. Ross objects strongly and says that Hughes shouldn't give them a blank ticket. Hughes says that as adults it's their job to enable them because they are the State's future. He says when she's a parent, she'll understand. In a flashback, we see what lead up to the burning down of the library. Scar recognises Lust as someone he knew, but says it can't really be her. After Scar witnesses their inhuman qualities, he realizes that Lust and Gluttony are Homunculi. Lust is suprised that anyone remembers that word or believes that such things exist still. In a last ditch effort to escape, Scar blows up the library, exacerbating the fire that Lust had started. Scar suddenly awakes in a bed. A boy comes in and tells him that he's in an Ishbalan camp. Scar is surprised there are still so many Ishbalans left after the massacre. An older Ishbalan says there are camps like this all around the country and that all the world is the bosom of Ishbalah. Back at the library, Ed finally cracks Marcoh's code and is horrified to find out the last ingredient to the Philosopher's Stone is live human beings. Scar decides to leave because he's done too many things against God. The boy comments on his tattoo and he says it was a gift from his brother, so he couldn't forget.

NINTEEN - The Truth Behind Truths In the teaser, we are informed that the Philosopher's Stone grants happiness in adversity, victory in battle, life to the dead. Ed, discouraged, sulks. Al tries to urge him to continue, but Ed gets angry and accidentally sends a cup flying in Al's face. Ross hears the sound of breaking glass and enters to investigate. Ross, who had been eavesdropping at the door when Ed discovered the last ingredient tells him not to give up, and that nothing anyone does is pointless. Heartend, Ed takes a look at the notes again. Ed decides he wants to see Marcoh's lab for himself. They examine a map and decide that research for the stone is/was conducted at the supposedly condemned Fifth Laboratory, which is right next to a prison, the perfect place to find human test subjects. The lab was once run by Basque Gran. Ed wants to investigate, but Ross 'convinces' them to stay put, because of Scar sightings. After she leaves, they sneak out the window. Scar then arrives at Central's Dorms in search of Ed. Luckily Ed's gone to fifth laboratory. Scar, using his mad tattoo skillz reads Marcoh's notes and figures out where Ed went, and that he now knows the secret of the Stone. Scar follows Ed's trail. Lust, Gluttony and Envy, who has returned from decimating Lior and is now his own 'adorable self' . They discuss Ed's future, Envy and Gluttony think they should just kill Ed, but Lust still thinks he can get them what they want. After fighting through numerous Temple of Doom type traps (which shouldn't be in a supposedly abandoned building) Ed finds the guardian of the place, Number 48. They fight, and Ed finds out he's a soul transmut like Al. Meanwhile another guardian named 66 attacks Al...
