Getting Started
So, what's this all about?
This is a Fullmetal Alchemist game in which you pick (or make up) a character and then write what happens to that character as everything goes along.
What do I have to do to sign up?
Please post your character form in the character section for approval. Then please submit a five hundred word post as a writing sample. It can be anything so long as it's something you've written. After I get your Bio and writing sample, I will take a look at them and when the character is approved, I will write it accross your character's Bio, so check that often... I will get to it as soon as I can.
I haven't watched the show, should this matter?
Well, it would be helpful if you are familiar with the FMA world already, but since it takes place in the distant past, it's not necessary to know plotting so much as know how the world functions.
I'm not old enough to see a rated R movie, can I still be a member?
As per Proboards rules, you must have your parent's permission if you are under 18. Anyone under 13 is not allowed to join Proboards.
I. Getting into Character
Can I be a character from the manga/anime?
Yes. However this takes place in the distant past, so very few would actually be alive back then.
Can I be an original character of my own creation?
Sure. Remember though, When I say original, I don't mean Edwards’s long lost ancestor, twice removed on his Mother's side's stepdaughter. Please no relations to existing characters. It's just way too confusing. If you really must do this, convince me. (in this particular RPG, I'll probably be more flexible about this one, because of the nature of this RPG...)
Can I be a chimaera?
I don't have a problem with this. However please, please (I can't stress that enough) be reasonable about it. You cannot be the entire cargo of Noah's Ark. Also, you must indicate on your character form when you join of what animals your character is made up of and how exactly that affects them. I will most likely approve unless I see that the RPG is starting to look more like a zoo.
Can I be a non-alchemist/Homunculus/soul-transmute/any other applicable humanoid?
Sure. Again, be resonable. No super omnipotent demon-god from the seventeenth dimension, okay? If you really, really must be the super omnipotent demon-god from the seventeenth dimension, convince me you won't abuse that power. Remember, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Can I be a Power Ranger?
Ummmm, no. I'd rather not mix universes... It get's kind of confuzzling...especially if others are not familiar with the rules of that fandom.
Can I be a mantle clock?
Ummmm. . .okaaaay. . .
I wanna be a goody-two-shoes Envy.
First, that's not even a question. Second, if you choose a character from the manga/anime. I must insist that you stick to the personality and backstory given to that character by Arakawa-Sensei (or what you know of it). If you can find a way to logically turn Envy into an Elric-loving, tree hugging, friend to humanity, by all means, contact me with your master plan of reformation (that doesn't include any deus ex machina) before Envy impersonates Santa Clause for the orphans in order to see their smiling faces. Basically, all I'm saying is play the character the best you can to the way it's written. (Allowing for elaboration, of course) If you don't want to do that, why did you pick that character in the first place?
Can I have more than one character?
I will allow it. However I'd start off with only one. If you feel you can handle more than one, please contact me and tell me you are doing so and I will either approve it or disapprove it. It's more than likely I will approve, but I am a power hungry and controlling person and need to maintain absolute iron control over the RPG that is my kingdom. Mwa ha ha ha! (Note the sarcasm)
Can I write other people's characters?
You can insofar as it would take that character to interact with your own. For any life changing decisions, please ask that character's writer first. You wouldn't want anyone killing off your character without your permission, would you? Just use a modicum of common sense. Also, if you do something the character's owner doesn't like, you must do as the person wishes. It's their character, after all.
II. Posting
What should my post header look like?
Your header should go, Date (with the format: yyyy.mm.dd) - Postername - Charactername - "Post Title"
What person and tense should I write in?
Past tense, third person. He went. She wrote. It was scary.
How often should I post?
It depends on the length and quality of the post. One post a week if you're writing a page or more of quality writing (A page constitutes Times New Roman, 12 pt with one inch margins or approximately five hundred words.) If you are going to do shorter posts (which, if done well, are allowed) I'd recommend something like two or three posts. A good standard is, five hundred words or more a week.
Can I use internet slang in my posts? Does spelling and grammar matter?
Please don't use internet slang. It looks ugly and immature, and can tend to get annoying. As for grammar and spelling, Of course they matter, but I'm not going to get out my red pen and start correcting your work or anything. Just make sure it is legible. If your first language isn't English, don't be discouraged, I'm not going to get all mean and nasty over a few misspellings (I am a horrible speller myself) and some missing commas, even if I am in training to become a professor of English... ^_^
What's this War Room thingummy?
It's a place to work out posts with your fellow RPGers. Please, please...the war room is to be used sparingly, as it just didn't work last time. After you are done adding a post, it is to go immediately on to the main thread. Last time we had a back up of posts so long we couldn't figure out what went where. So once you are finished writing for the night, (or day) please put it on the main thread.
