A list of examples of the principle of Equivalent Exchange in real life.
Quid pro quo - this for that, information
karma - What you do in this life affects what will befall you in the next. More popularly interpreted as 'you get what you give' and usually is equvalent to my nest example of EE ...
Treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself - this is basically like above, but coming at it from a different angle. (hmm...golden rule....gold...philsopher's stone product ... hmm....)
Eye for an Eye - ancient Hebraic law demanding literal equivalency in an economic sense, this one is interesting to me, because if EE equals the rigid this for that strict set of laws of the Old Testament, and the P!Stone circumvents this equivalency, does that make the P!Stone sort of New Testament thinking?
I also find the circular nature of EE interesting, and transmutation circles a fitting representation of the concept. Speaking of which...
The Circle of Life - Mufasa's explanation of the circle of life is an equivalent exchange. He says something like "We are all connected, from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope" then Simba says "But Dad, don't we eat the antelope?" then Mufasa says, "Yes, but when we die, our bodies become the grass and the antelope eat the grass. So we are all connected in the great circle of life." Therefore, it is another example of Equivalent Exchange, Lion eats anteloupe, anteloupe eats lion.
Matter-energy exchange in a closed system - the exchange between the two must be equivalent since nothing is added or taken away. also makes me wonder how fma!alchemy is a science, since it doesn't seem to obey conservation of energy.
